Karim Pirani, CEO
Before founding Safelist, Karim’s insatiable curiosity allowed him to indulge in his entrepreneurial passion on many fronts: He ran a successful NYC advertising company in the late 80s and early 90s. specializing in fashion marketing. In 1994, at the dawn of the Internet Age, he built an online shopping portal called Cyberspaced.com. Unfortunately, that venture failed right before encryption technology made online shopping possible. He then ran a successful hedge fund that invested in Internet companies and allowed him to live his childhood dream of retiring by the age of 40. He actually retired at 41 and moved to Toronto, Canada. His wife, Shahin, who could not handle the bitter Canadian Arctic winters, convinced him to move to California in 2005. However, for someone as curious and passionate as Karim, retirement was akin to boredom and getting on his family’s collective nerves did not seem like a fun way to live out his life in America’s finest city. To preserve everyone’s sanity, he started work on building Safelist in late 2009. Today, Karim along with his wife and their 2 daughters, Selina and Karina and their dog Prince, call San Diego home.
